Fall is graduate school application season, and scientific conferences are a great opportunity for us to meet potential new Neuroscience PhD Program students. This fall, Berkeley Neuroscience faculty, staff, and students were pleased to attend several meetings where we talked with prospective students about our program.
Neuroscience PhD student Christiane Voufo represented our program at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS). She met many potential applicants, learned about their research, and answered their questions about our program. Christiane attended along with Audrey Knowlton, the Biological Sciences Graduate Diversity Director at UC Berkeley, and representatives from the Molecular and Cell Biology department.
The Society for Neuroscience (SFN) Annual Meeting is a major conference in our field, and many of our members attended this year to present their research, learn about the latest discoveries, connect with colleagues, and meet prospective new students.

Our program was well-represented at the SFN Graduate School Fair, with several faculty members, staff, and students volunteering at the Berkeley Neuroscience booth where they met potential applicants and shared information about our program.
Additionally, thanks to donations contributed to our program during UC Berkeley’s Big Give campaign, we were able to provide travel grants to help our first-year students attend SFN this year to enrich their scientific and professional development.
Finally, our PhD Program Director Michael Silver, Neuroscience Training Grant Director Dan Feldman, and Graduate Program Manager Candace Groskreutz attended the NIH Blueprint Program for Enhancing Neuroscience Diversity through Undergraduate Research Education (ENDURE) meeting at SFN, where they had one-on-one conversations with prospective PhD students.
