HWNI serves as the intellectual hub for neuroscience studies and research activities at the University of California’s Berkeley campus. HWNI staff, together with several departmental and research unit administrations, provide a full complement of administrative services in support of HWNI’s mission.

Financial and Human Resources services are provided by each faculty member’s specific research unit and/or department. Berkeley Regional Services provides consolidated services to a plurality of HWNI’s stakeholders. Communications, advancement, and PhD program coordination is provided by HWNI’s staff.

Financial and Human Resources

Financial and Human Resources services are provided by each faculty member’s specific research unit and/or department. Before looking for a specific service, ask the faculty in charge what entity is managing their administrative services.

Campus Shared Services provides services for a large number of HWNI’s faculty. For specific information, please visit the Regional Services website.

FAQs

How do I find out who to contact about an administrative matter?
Find what administrative unit provides services to your lab. Alternately, ask your faculty member what administrative unit manages their funds, since most administrative services are connected to funds management. Once you get the answer, contact the appropriate person/service provider (see Financial and Human Resources above).

Who do I contact to get access to a building and/or lab space?
Each building/lab space has different procedures and personnel in charge. Ask your faculty member who provides building access services. For Barker Hall, in particular, see Helpful Links (above). Please read the guidelines before taking action.

I am a faculty member, and have a question about academic personnel. Who do I contact?
All faculty academic personnel matters are handled through the home department, not HWNI.

I am a postdoctoral researcher, and I have a question about academic personnel. Who do I contact?
Ask your faculty mentor what administrative unit provides services for them (see question 1).

I am a graduate student who needs to be paid as a Graduate Student Researcher from my research mentor’s grant/fund. Who do I contact?
Ask your mentor what administrative unit manages their funds, since most administrative services are connected to funds management. Once you get the answer, you can contact the appropriate person/service provider (see Financial and Human Resources above).

I am new to the campus. How do I get a CalNet token to set up my email account?
Find the administrative unit that provides services for your lab, then go to https://calnet.berkeley.edu/ and check under “CalNet Deputies List” (in the left hand links) who the CalNet deputies are for that particular administrative unit.

What are some of the main services I will need to tap into while working at Berkeley?
See http://berkeley.edu/work/tools.shtml for a general overview; many services are provided by the immediate administrative unit which manages your faculty/program funds.
